Privacy Policy

Cloudman is built to work without knowing who you are. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no sale of data — we have nothing to sell. What the app does keep, it keeps under a random identifier so it can remember what you care about and so we can learn what to build. This page lists everything the app sends off your device, why, where it goes, and how to erase it. If it isn't listed here, we don't collect it.
1. Information we process
Anonymous install identifier. The app creates a random identifier on your device the first time it runs. It is sent with requests to our server and is the key under which everything below is kept. It is random; it is not your name, email address, phone number, or Apple ID, and nothing about you can be derived from it.
Location coordinates. If you grant location permission (requested as “while using the app” only), your coordinates are sent to our server for the sole purpose of fetching the forecast for where you are. Our server queries the weather data provider named in the app's Settings (“Data sources”). Coordinates are not stored; they pass through transient server logs that age out automatically. What we keep is the nameof the place (for example “Inner Sunset”), never the coordinates.
Chat questions. Messages you type in the chat are sent to our server and then to Anthropic, the artificial-intelligence provider whose model generates the reply. The question (and the app's previous reply, if any) also goes to TypeSafe AI, whose small model sorts it by kind — a commute, a which-day question, plain chat — so the right part of the app can answer; no identifier travels with it. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms and TypeSafe's privacy policy, your messages are not used to train AI models. We keep the questions you ask, and a short classification of each (for example: asked about hiking), tied to your install identifier — so the app can remember what you care about, and so we can learn which questions deserve a better answer. We do not keep the AI's replies.
Preferences and product interaction. We keep your preferences (units, the places you look up by name, what you tell us matters to you in the weather, and the interests the chat has heard about) and a record of which parts of the app you open and tap (for example, that you opened the week-ahead sheet), tied to the same identifier. We use this to personalize what the app shows you and says to you, to improve the app, and to decide what to build. There are no third-party analytics SDKs; this data goes only to our own server.
Your name (optional). If you choose to add a name, it is stored with your install identifier and shown in your own replies — and, only if you share a place, on that shared page (below). Skipping is final unless you add one later in Settings.
Places you share. If you tap Share on a place you follow, our server makes a link to a public page with Cloudman's text for that place: its name, its forecast, the weather facts you chose to see, and your name if you added one (for example “What Maya watches”). Anyone you send the link to, and anyone they pass it on to, can open it; the page is not listed anywhere and asks search engines not to index it. It never shows where you are, your other places, or anything you said in the chat. We keep the link for 90 days, with counts of how often it was opened and tapped — not who opened it.
People who open a shared link. The page sets no cookies and has no identifier. We count opens (telling people apart from the link previews chat apps fetch), and taps on “Full forecast” and “Get Cloudman”, as numbers per link and per day.
Notes to the founder. If you write to the founder from the chat, the note, the place name and the reading on screen at the time are kept with your identifier so a reply can find its way back. To help the founder understand and answer it, the note is read alongside what the app recorded for your identifier (the product interaction and error reports described on this page) by Anthropic's model, under the same no-training terms as the chat. The resulting summary (what the note is about and a suggested reply) is kept with the note for the founder only. It is never sent to you without the founder reading it first.
Aggregate usage counts. We keep aggregate counts (for example, the total number of chat messages sent across all installs, or the number of people who reset their data on a given day) to keep the service healthy and affordable. These are numbers only and identify no one.
2. Information we do not collect
- No account creation, and no collection of your email address, phone number, or contacts.
- No advertising, ad identifiers, or cross-app tracking (the app never asks for tracking permission because it has nothing to track).
- No selling or sharing of personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.
- No precise location storage — your coordinates are used to fetch a forecast and are not kept.
- No AI replies — what the model says back is shown to you and not stored.
- No reading of anything else on your device.
3. Erasing your data
Settings → Reset my data deletes everything held under your identifier — preferences, places, questions, interactions, any notes to the founder, and any links you shared (they stop working) — immediately and completely. The app keeps working; it simply no longer remembers you. Daily chat counters expire on their own within 48 hours.
4. Location permission
Location access is optional and requested as “while using the app” only. If you decline, everything works by searching for a place by name. You can change your choice any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
5. The AI chat
Chat replies are generated by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude). Messages you send in chat are transmitted to Anthropic to produce the reply, and to TypeSafe AI to sort the question by kind. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in chat messages; the chat only requires weather-related questions. AI-generated answers can be inaccurate; see the Terms of Use regarding reliance on them.
6. Service providers and hosting
Our server runs on Vercel. Preferences and counters live in Upstash (Redis) and the interaction log in Neon (Postgres), all U.S. hosting providers. Weather data comes from Apple Weather (WeatherKit); the map of nearby places uses Mapbox for its coastline; chat replies come from Anthropic, and TypeSafe AI sorts each chat question by kind. Each processes data only to provide their service to us.
7. Children
Cloudman is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included — the app is built to work without knowing who you are.
8. Your rights
Everything we hold is tied to a random install identifier, not to you. Settings → Reset my data deletes all of it at once, without asking us. If you would like a copy first, or have a privacy request (including rights under GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA), contact us at the address below and we'll help.
9. Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices ever change, this page will be updated first and the “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be noted in the app.
